You are cordially invited to join Nalandabodhi Seattle for a half-day silent retreat at Nalanda West. The retreat will consist mostly of calm abiding meditation with alternating periods of walking meditation and mindful movement. This is a precious opportunity to spend some concentrated time on the cushion in a group setting, a chance to get to know our minds and to help help other do the same.

During this series of Sunday talks at Nalanda West, beginning on March 31, 2024, Mitra Tyler Dewar will share an exploration of some of the practice lineages’ deeper instructions on śamatha (calm abiding) and vipaśyanā (special insight), the two main pathways of the journey of meditation.
“A foundational principle and inherent experience in the practice of tai chi is stillness within motion; the two are inseparable. Although we are often caught up in or distracted by the busyness and confusion of movement, both physical and mental, there is always an element of stillness to connect with.”
“It may seem impossible to live without being carried away by emotions, but we can respond differently. We can let emotions be part of our life, but not be controlled by them. And we must control our negative actions in response to those emotions. This will benefit ourselves and everyone around us,” writes Brazilian sangha member Sebastião Miranda.
