How does one become a Buddhist What does it mean to “take refuge” in the Three Jewels: the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha? What are we taking refuge from? Are we ready to choose to be a refugee? To discuss these questions, Acharya Tashi will lead a series of classes leading up to a Refuge Vow ceremony held during the last class.
This is the 10th anniversary of Nalandbodhi’s annual Winter Retreat, and we hope you will join us onsite at Nalanda West or online via Zoom as we close out 2024, pausing our busy lives to connect with the sunlight that melts the ice of our suffering, deepen ways to relax into renewal on a daily basis, and release our frozen fixations into the infinite and always loving expanse of space.
In this eight week series of teachings, Acharya Tashi Wangchuck will finish teaching The King of Aspiration Prayers. The prayer itself is rich in imagery and symbolism that, once explained, can deepen our appreciation and understanding of the verses.

Also known as the “foundational vehicle,” Hinayana is the first vehicle of the three-yana system of study – Hinayana, Mahayana, and Vajrayana. It is the basis for entering the path as taught in Vajrayana traditions. Hinayana 202 (October 29–December 10), describes the Hinayana path and its results.
Bodhichitta, the Mind of Awakening, refers to both relative and ultimate compassion, compassion being a necessary part of following the Mahayana or Great Path. How do we find that within us? Once found, how do we foster and nurture the relative to finally realize ultimate compassion? These Sunday teachings and discussions will introduce contemplations and practices to assist practitioners on this path.
