Meditation Is Getting to Know Your Mind

The practice of meditation is basically a process of getting to know yourself. Normally the mind is a whirlwind of thought.  Meditation is a practice that calms this whirlwind and helps us develop a peaceful state of mind. When we meditate we get better at catching our thoughts  – and releasing them. Gradually our mind begins to settle naturally. This is great because it allows us to be fully present in our lives. When we aren’t being pulled into the past or the future, we can be right here, where we actually live. To be in the present moment simply means to be awake and aware of yourself and your surroundings. That’s the beginning of peace and contentment.

Sunday Open Meditation and Acharya Tashi Wangchuk teaching

We are delighted to once again offer open meditation on Sunday in our Mahabodhi Shrine Room at Nalanda West. Our practice will begin at 10:00 am with opening chants followed by sitting and walking meditation.  No experience is necessary.  Some instruction will be given.

Starting at 11:00 AM, Acharya Tashi Wangchuk will resume teaching and discussion about a couple of verses from The 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva, covering verses 27 to 37 —  a classic Buddhist text that presents an alternative way of thinking, of  relating to the outer and inner worlds of everyday living.  It is a refreshing, revolutionary, and radical approach to a life that is worth exploring.

At 12 noon join us for a light lunch – soup and salad – so that participants will have the opportunity to socialize.

All are welcome.  No registration necessary.
