Losar is the Tibetan New Year; 2020 is the Year of Male Iron Mouse.
This is a time to start with a new outlook as we set the tone for the coming year.
“Lo” means “year” or “age,” and “sar” means “fresh” or “new.” It is a time to come together as a sangha, share our heartfelt aspirations, mark transitions in leadership roles, and honor our teachers.
It is the custom at Nalandabodhi to host sessions of protector practice during the three nights that precede the eve of Losar, the lunar new year. The purpose of these practices is to purify any remaining negativity from the past year and clear away obstacles for the coming year.
This year our pre-Losar protector practices take place from 7-8:30 p.m. on Feb. 20, 21 and 22; our Losar celebration happens Monday, Feb. 24.
