Nalanda West Planting Day
It’s time to freshen the landscape and plantings at our sangha home, Nalanda West. Deborah Horn, a Seattle sangha member and landscape designer, is planning a “planting day” on the afternoon of Saturday, May 21.

Stephanie Johnston leads this three-hour May 21 workshop on lujong, a set of 15 movements devised by Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche. Lujong is an adaptable method to increase energy and pliancy of body and mind, regardless of one’s practice and physical condition. This provides an opportunity to learn and practice in advance of our upcoming annual sangha retreat, where lujong sessions typically begin each day.

Rinpoche takes part May 5 in a series of talks on Psychedelics & the Contemplative Path. Can “plant teachers” point out the true nature of mind and reality? Or are these moments that only appear profound under the influence of a drug?

We once again are offering in-person Sunday meditations at Nalanda West, from 10:30 a.m. to noon followed by a potluck social gathering in the dining room. Our next monthly Sangha Day Meeting will happen on June 26, please join us!

Does success in our daily lives translate into sustainable happiness? We think that success offers us more resources, more status and thus more opportunities for enjoyment. But often the striving that precedes success can blind us to more lasting causes of happiness: knowing oneself, being emotionally resilient and knowing what’s truly important in our heart of hearts.

Our Feb. 2 celebration of Losar, the year of the water tiger, began with a morning practice followed by an open house at Nalanda West. In the relaxed atmosphere of the community room, members gathered to enjoy snacks and the company of their sangha buddies. We hope to continue to schedule social gatherings throughout the spring and summer, so we can all reconnect with one another.
