Rebel Buddha is an exploration of what it means to be free and how we can become free.

With the opening words to his book, Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche opens the door to a fresh, new approach to the teachings of the Buddha in his book Rebel Buddha: A Guide to a Revolution of Mind.

According to the Buddha, our freedom is never in question — we are born free. The problem is that we don’t see who we truly are at the deepest level. This is the mission of the rebel, to free us from the prison of our illusions.  The rebel is the voice of our own awakened mind, sharp and clear.

Please join us for this  book discussion group as we explore a step-by-step guide that has the potential to free our mind. Ponlop Rinpoche describes the traditional Buddhist path to awakening with amusing anecdotes and a modern sensibility.  Chapters such as Untelling the Story of Self and What’s in Your Mouth reveal methods that can be practiced to dissolve illusions and lead to true freedom.

Each session will begin with a short period of meditation followed by a facilitated discussion led by Dianne Eberlein, a student of Ponlop Rinpoche and member of Nalandabodhi Seattle.

Copies of the book Rebel Buddha are widely available through local and online bookstores.

Discussion Facilitator

Dianne Eberlein became a member of Nalandabodhi Seattle in 2010 and became a formal student of Ponlop Rinpoche the following year. Originally from Minnesota, Dianne moved to Seattle in 2004 and, after retiring from a career in business, became involved in the community through volunteer teaching. After discovering Nalandabodhi in the Fremont neighborhood, she developed an active interest in Buddhist philosophy and completed the Study Curriculum of Nalandabodhi as well as attending classes of its affiliated nonprofit, Nitartha Institute. Dianne is actively involved in the Seattle sangha and served as Nalandabodhi Seattle Sangha Director from 2019 to 2024. She moved to Bellingham in 2021 and is hoping to form a Buddhist study group.
