Vernal Equinox 2022 Teaching and Practice - Nalandabodhi Seattle

Vernal Equinox 2022 Teaching and Practice

Sun., March 20, 2022
6:00 pm - 7:45 pm

The vernal equinox occurs on Sunday, March 20 this year. On this day, the sun is positioned exactly above the Equator and day and night are of equal length. Then slowly, the northern hemisphere begins to tilt toward the sun and daylight hours become longer. The equinox, like the solstice, is a moment of change in the annual cycle. As instructed in The Aspiration Prayer of Samantabhadra prayer, we recognize this change “at the solstices or at the turn of the year” with practice and recitation.

We are delighted that once again Mitra Tyler Dewar will be joining us. He has generously offered to continue his teaching on the meaning and significance of The Aspiration Prayer. His online discussion will begin at 6 p.m., followed by practice and recitation of The Aspiration Prayer.

He began studying the Tibetan language in 1997, and became an oral interpreter and textual translator for Nitartha Institute and Nalandabodhi in 2000.

Mitra Tyler joined the faculty of Nitartha Institute in 2003 and was appointed as a senior teacher in Nalandabodhi in 2005. He has served as an oral interpreter for lineage-holding masters of the Kagyu and Nyingma traditions of Indo-Tibetan Buddhism. Tyler enjoys teaching on such topics as the four immeasurables, and exploring how the great Buddhist forebears inspire and inform life in the 21st century.

A musician and singer, he has participated in the creation of several ‘melodized’ liturgies and ‘dharma songs.’ Tyler is the father of an amazing daughter and lives in Seattle, Washington.
