The Logic of Miracles

A presentation by Sandra Roscoe within a science-of-mind framework.

6:00 PM Teaching by Sandra Roscoe
6:40 PM Liturgy & Practice

Chötrul Düchen closely follows Losar, the Tibetan New Year. It takes place on the fifteenth day of the first month in the Tibetan calendar during the full moon. This period celebrates the Buddha’s fifteen days of consecutive teachings accompanied by many miracles that increased devotion and deepened the spiritual realizations of his followers.

Sandra Roscoe, a senior student of Ponlop Rinpoche and teacher at Nitartha Institute, has offered to use the occasion of this holiday to ask the question — what do miracles mean from a buddhist science-of-mind perspective?  As she points out, Ponlop Rinpoche has said many times that Buddhism is more than a religion — it’s a science of mind.

In her talk, from a Buddhist inquiry point of view, Sandra will discuss how miracles suggest a certain kind of logic. We’ll ask ourselves, how do we define miracles? What view do we bring to this question? What purpose do miracles serve in the Buddha’s teachings? What can we learn about our mind and its world from this inquiry?

Please join us for this intriguing discussion followed by our holiday liturgy and practice.
