By simply engaging with our ordinary experience using the focus of the breath, we can begin to make friends with our minds and be present to our lives with greater depth and heart. In meditation, we discover how our conditioned minds work and thus begin to unwind painful habits of struggle and confusion. This process enables us to connect with the fundamental openness, ease, and compassion of our minds, as well as the ability to embrace all aspects of our everyday life.

This course is designed to help beginners and intermediate meditators establish and strengthen their ongoing practice. Instruction in Buddhist meditation and embodied mindfulness techniques offered in an interactive Q/A format with group practice in brief sessions. Complementary practicum for the Introduction to Buddhism course, but no prior knowledge or experience is necessary.

Topics include:

  • Why meditate in the first place?
  • How do you “do” it?
  • Posture, presence and embodiment
  • Gentleness, precision and humor in practice
  • Working with thoughts and emotions
  • Overcoming obstacles to sustaining & deepening our meditation
